Mike Andersen “Home”
The 5th album from one of Denmark”s finest
Five-time Danish Music Award nominee
Home entered at #5 on the Danish Album Chart in the first week
Mike Andersen has completed the recording of his muchanticipated, fifth full-length album, HOME. On this album, everything comes together for Andersen, the 37-year-old, fivetime Danish Music Awardnominated songwriter and musician who has more than 1,000 concerts under his belt. HOME was recorded and produced by Mike Andersen himself in a very intimate and familiar setting – his own home. In a basement studio, he and his musicians were able to come and go and test ideas whenever the mood struck them. In this familiar and private setting, which provided flexibility and freedom, they were able to collaborate until they found just the sound they wanted. The result is a recording that is not only top-notch but also quite unique, presenting an atmosphere and vibe not present in Andersen”s previous recordings. The work on HOME swings and sparkles with joy; the ballads are at once intimate and immediately accessible. The listener feels as though he has stumbled into the private basement studio itself and is witnessing the artists at work. In this sense, he becomes a participant. Several of the tracks on HOME were mixed by Russel Elevado (Alicia Keys, The Roots, many others), in his house in New York, while other tracks were mixed by Thomas Alstrup in Silkeborg, Denmark. Both Elevado and Alstrup contribute to produce a warm and powerful sound. Lyrically, HOME follows Andersen as a family man and a musician, providing a glimpse into the contrasts of a life spent on the road with a “tooth brush in a back pocket.” Mike Andersen is constantly on a tour bus, given three annual tours in Norway, frequent concerts all over Denmark and around Europe. He loves this life, but it does come with its costs. Andersen”s lyrics on HOME are brutally honest and yet poignantly humorous as he tells of these costs. We hear of his fear of potentially losing touch and connection with his loved ones as well as the joy and gratitude of meeting the one person who will love him unconditionally. HOME features the same musicians who performed on Andersen”s last album and have toured with him since: Keyboardist Kristian Fogh, bass player Kristian Cold, the drummer Jens Kristian Dam, with whom Mike has played for many years, and, finally but not least, Johannes Nørrelykke on vocals and guitar, who contributed a lot to both the songwriting and overall production of HOME.
